Mental Health Moment: Unhappy holidays

Last Modified: December 13, 2025

Healthy Mind

The holiday season is often marketed as a time of joy and celebration, but for many, it can be difficult and lonely. This time of year can be challenging for many, bringing about feelings of stress, anxiety and sadness.  There is added pressure at family gatherings, gift-giving and social commitments that can lead to what we call the holiday blues.

Unhappy holidays can stem from various reasons-loss, loneliness, stress, or unmet expectations. It is important to acknowledge these feelings and to seek support. Sharing your feelings can provide comfort and understanding.

During this time, remember to practice self-care, set boundaries and prioritize your well-being.

Many people experience similar feelings during the holidays.  If you need more support, don’t hesitate to seek professional help.

Remember, you are not alone.
