Free community event for women and children offers chance to learn, meet experts, get resources

WARSAW, Ind. – Sept. 18, 2025 – Thinking about having your first baby or expanding your family again? Then mark your calendar and plan to attend “Little Feet, Big Starts: A community event for women and children,” on Saturday, Sept. 27, from 10 a.m. to noon, sponsored by Parkview Kosciusko Hospital (PKH).

Little Feet, Big Starts Community Event

Held at the hospital, “Little Feet, Big Starts” offers free resources and information to help women improve their well-being through self-care, relationships with expert healthcare providers, and local support services geared to the needs of women and mothers. Any woman who wants to learn more about planning for pregnancy and getting their child off to a strong start in life is especially encouraged to participate. Several Spanish-language interpreters will be available at the event.

“We’re celebrating one year since we opened PKH’s Family Birthing Center (FBC),” said Scott Gabriel, market president, Parkview Health Northwest. “It’s an important resource for area families, particularly in the surrounding rural communities. We provide not only access to high-quality care, but also personal support and health education, all of which are critical to the strength of families in our communities. Working with local partner organizations that provide services supporting women and young children, we can help families thrive, so it made sense for us to bring all those resources together at this event.”

“We know that connection plays a big role in helping women cope with the joys and challenges of pregnancy and motherhood,” said Stacy Frank, MSN, RNC-OB, manager of the Family Birthing Center. “This event provides a convenient way for women to easily access helpful resources and learn about the importance of prenatal care, safe sleep practices and other actions women can take to protect their health and their baby’s health. They can meet and talk with our experienced providers and care team, as well as community partners who want to ensure the best start for local families. We want women in this community to know we genuinely care about them and are here for them.”

Guests can tour the state-of-the-art FBC, meet Parkview Physicians Group - OB/GYN and Pediatrics providers, and find out how the team provides personalized care for each woman’s health and obstetric needs.

The FBC offers seven large birthing suites that accommodate new mothers and their families throughout their hospital stay. These LDRP suites enable each mom to go through labor, delivery, recovery and postpartum all in the privacy of one room. If needed, epidurals, birthing balls, IV pain medication and other comfort measures are available. The center also includes a dedicated C-section suite, an advanced fetal monitoring system, and a newborn nursery.

Focused on providing family-centered care, the FBC also offers prenatal and postpartum classes and support services such as breastfeeding instruction, as well as help from an obstetric nurse navigator.

Guests at “Little Feet, Big Starts” can also take advantage of these Parkview-provided services:

  • Free car seat safety checks, performed by certified technicians in a designated area of the parking lot, rain or shine
  • Tips on how to create a safe sleeping environment for baby
  • Training by Parkview EMS on how to perform infant and child CPR
