Parkview Health and CareEvolution unveil new cloud-based digital resilience solution for uninterrupted patient care

FORT WAYNE, Ind. – Aug. 18, 2025 – Parkview Health today announced the rollout of the virtual Single Patient Record (vSPR), an Isolated Recovery Environment (IRE) developed by health‑technology leader CareEvolution. vSPR will keep every Parkview clinician connected to a read‑only patient record, even when the primary electronic medical record (EMR) system or hospital network is offline, marking a breakthrough in cost‑effective digital resilience.

Cyberattacks and unplanned outages have exposed a critical gap: most backup tools run on the same infrastructure that fails. Parkview Health chose to invest in a second, fully isolated platform that safeguards care, without the prohibitive price tag historically associated with such a high‑availability architecture.

Parkview’s investment in vSPR reflects its unwavering commitment to innovation, quality and safety. By ensuring clinicians can access vital patient health information regardless of cyber threats or infrastructure failures, Parkview reinforces its focus on delivering reliable, high‑quality care when patients need it most.

“Patient safety isn’t negotiable,” said Ron Double, Chief Information Officer, Parkview Health. “This cloud-based clinical repository means clinicians will have access to critical patient information, even if the unthinkable happens and most systems are down. With vSPR, we have invested in a cost-effective system to improve patient safety and preparedness.”

Recent research underscores the stakes: McKinsey & Company’s February 2025 article estimates that a single hospital cyberattack carries an average direct cost of $11 million, while peer‑reviewed studies have linked prolonged EHR downtime to as much as a 20% increase in 30‑day mortality for certain patients.

Features of vSPR Isolated Recovery Environment:

  • Full patient history, live data – Near real‑time data synchronization plus every Epic record since go‑live ensures clinicians never lose clinical context.
  • Independent cloud stack – Hosted in an independent FISMA‑moderate environment with isolated network and server infrastructure; a breach or shutdown of the primary Parkview Health network or services does not impact vSPR availability.
  • Any‑device access – The vSPR mobile aware responsive web app works on smartphones over LTE, eliminating reliance on hospital workstations or VPNs all the while ensuring that only those with the right credentials are able to access sensitive patient data.
  • Cost‑smart advanced cloud-native model – Cloud‑native and serverless, vSPR scales instantly when needed, yet hibernates when idle.

vSPR is now active in all Parkview Health locations.

About CareEvolution

Healthcare is connected, but our data is not. Even with modern technology, critical health information remains siloed across hospitals, physician offices, pharmacies, labs, health plans, and our own devices. This fragmentation creates an information vacuum that weakens care and limits progress. At CareEvolution, we’re changing that. Our Orchestrate® platform—cloud-native, API-driven, and secure—unifies clinical, claims, and patient-sourced data into a Virtual Single Patient Record (vSPR). Trusted by health plans, hospital systems, community collaboratives, researchers, and millions of patients, Orchestrate is already serving more than 250 million people nationwide. It powers payer-provider collaboration, drives AI/ML innovation, coordinates care across communities, and gives patients control over their health information.
