People of Parkview

Christy Plakio, phlebotomy trainer, Parkview Regional Medical Center Lab, has been with the health system for seven years. She shares what she loves about her role in the Parkview Laboratories.

How did you become a phlebotomy trainer?

I did my schooling in California, at the Skaddron College for Medical Assisting. I got my phlebotomy certification through the National Allied Health Professionals, which I have been doing for over 30 years. I started in processing and moved to phlebotomy about three years ago.

Why did you decide to become a phlebotomy trainer?

I decided to take the position as phlebotomy trainer because I thought it would be fun and interesting to see new people come in and learn.

What is the best part of your job?

The best part of my job is seeing new trainees grow and prosper and get compliments and just learn to love healthcare the way I have for the past 30 years.

Why are you proud to be Parkview?

Parkview's been a great place to work. Everybody I run into is pleasant to, not only their co-workers, but the patients as well. They strive for compassion and empathy, and I think that's something that's greatly missing in today's healthcare.

What would you say to someone considering joining the Parkview team?

Because phlebotomy is a good way to learn what you like and don't like about healthcare and what you might be able to tolerate as a healthcare professional, it’s a great place to start your career.
