A beautiful day marked the dedication of the Parkview Wabash Hospital (PWB) walking path extension, thanks to the generosity of the Terry D. and Carol A. Agness Family Foundation. Many co-workers gathered as Lydia Miller, manager, Chaplaincy, offered a blessing for the path to be ever useful and for those who enjoy it to be safe. Deb Potempa, Market President, Parkview Health South, and Denise Andorfer, director, Parkview Health Foundation, expressed their gratitude to Lance and Shelly Agness, who represented their family foundation. Lance and his sister Lana Barnhisel manage the foundation established by their parents.
Usage of the walking path has increased significantly since the additional half mile was added late last year. Now, a mile in total, the trail also features a mixture of 30 different native grasses, plants and flowers that have been planted around the dry pond on the west end of the path. While we are just beginning to see some of the flowers bloom, it will take time for the area to achieve its full potential.
"What we've planted along the walking path will create a space that's not only beautiful, but ecologically beneficial. But it takes time—up to three years—for these plantings to fully establish and show their true colors," Facilities Supervisor Jason Sluss explained. "The area will attract birds, butterflies and other pollinators. Our hope is that this space becomes a peaceful retreat for anyone looking to relax, reflect, or simply enjoy nature in a calming environment."
As a lasting tribute to the Agness family's generosity and vision, the PWB walking path encourages the well-being of all who use it while nurturing the environment. Whether you're out for a walk or a run, taking a break or just soaking in the scenery, it's a gift that will keep giving for years to come.
